About me

Hello there! I’m Kate McKenzie. Nice to meet you!

When I reached the interesting age of 70 this year, I realized this is a journey I am not quite prepared for. I know I am fortunate to be here to see my daughters and grandsons create their lives. That being said, my “place in the world” is more than a bit fuzzy. “The world” often expects little of a 70 year old, is surprised that a 70 year old still has “work to do,” and sometimes reacts not-so-kindly to folks “of a certain age.” Sadly, at 70 — and beyond — our perceived value is diminished in many ways. What’s a 70 year old to do???

I have created this blog for you and me! This is a place to remind us of our value, to honor our past, and to look forward to the future. We are young at heart, have youthful spirits, and God has given us the gift of life. How blessed we are! Here our community of kindred spirits will “lift us higher” as we face the days and years ahead.

I was raised in a sleepy little town in northern Pennsylvania, the middle child of our family, with an older brother Tim and a younger brother Denny. I have two wonderful daughters, two incredible grandsons and a much-loved son-in-law who brought two great “bonus” grandchildren into my little family.

After working more than twenty years in “corporate America” I am now close to fifteen years along in my second career as an adjunct college professor.

My two passions in life are lifelong learning – never, ever giving up the quest to learn something new – and appreciating diversity – valuing the beautiful differences we all bring to the world.
